Sign up today for a fun filled adventure at the iC SuperCOMPUTERS log cabin for this year’s Movie Making Kids’ Summer Day Camp. To reserve a spot (limited seating) drop into the store (click here for Maps and Directions ) and register your child. For more information contact Kaela, the camp coordinator at 519-759-6620 for complete details.
On the first day, the kids are introduced and have a chance to meet the staff and the other kids, familiarize themselves with the computer systems and the camp environment and learn what’s to be expected during the camp, get and overview on safety procedures and tips, play some computer games, see what other camps have accomplished, have lunch and get a brief introductory training on some of the key software to be used. The challenge will be for the kids as a team to decide the basic premise for their camp movie.
Some of the software that may be in use during the camp includes iWork ’09 (Pages for scripts, storyboards, DVD covers and promotional posters; Numbers for budgets and continuity checklists; Keynote as a story board alternative, run thru or preview); iPhoto (for establishing scenes and some special effects); iTunes (for movie music); GarageBand (for incidental music, theme music, sound effects and scoring the movie); iMovie (for editing, titles and digital transitions); iDVD for mastering the finish product, which will be available to each participant to provide long lasting memories, “How I spend my summer”, for their friends, family and school presentations.
Other software will also be included, as needed.
Since Mac computers are the only computers that run both Windows and Mac software, and since Mac computers are the choice computers for making the top award winning blockbuster hits for the last 10 years in row from the Indy Awards to Oscar Awards, it’s a no brainer that Mac is the computer of choice for this camp.
There will also be some opportunity for theatre training (stunt coordination, acting, improve, piano and guitar lessons, stage performance) on an as needed basis. For example, if scene calls for a live band performance, music instructors will be on hand to provide training and tips for the actor’s/actresses involved as needed.
The participants will have an opportunity to choose various roles, on-camera and/or off camera, for the production. The roles can include, camera operator, directory, storyboarder, gaffer, continuity, assistant director, writer, music director, actor/actress, principle character, supporting character, extra, lighting, makeup, set design, and wardrobe manager, depending the type of movie project they choose.
Sci-Fi, drama, adventure, superhero, scary, comedy, educational, and just plain fun, were some of the choices past camps have chosen. Will the movie be this year? We’ll find out at the DVD Release Party.
In the meantime, here’s a recap of some of the Movie Camp projects over the years:

Stupid Head 2
How can anyone be so twisted? Just ask Wi Wi as he follows through with the evil Dr. Jaracle’s plan that that can make anyone a stupid head, anywhere, anytime - even in the middle of a live rock concert.
“Dead Man Lives” started it all with Stupid Head 1. That was where Baby Wi Wi was infected by toxic fumes from a ice cap plant stolen from an exhibit of martian artifacts at the KWC centre where Dr. Jaracle worked as a Mad Scientist.
In Stupid Head 2, Wi Wi is all grown up now - well, sort of. Wi Wi, Dr. Jaracle’s assistant, is on a mission to find someone who is popular in earth culture and shoot them with the toxic ice plant fumes. Marcus, the drummer of a popular youth band with large fan base, is targeted to become Stupid Head 2.
But 2 just isn’t enough. Dr. Jaracle has a plan. By making everyone a stupid head, he will become the smartest person in the world - I think. Stacey, a popular fashion model and news anchor becomes the next target after she uncovers news of the evil plan and decides to expose the Dr. Jaracle. As expected, Dr. Jaracle and Wi Wi fight back with an army of freshly-spawned zombie-like stupid heads. While Stacy and her popular girlfriend, who survived the first wave of attacks, are busy fighting off the stupid heads, Dr. Jaracle initiates plan B - to transform into a giant ice plant and unleash mass stupidity on the entire world. No one, not even the evil assistant Wi Wi, knows what to expect next.
This exciting movie will leave you wondering... “If I got smart with you, how would you know?”. You need to watch this addictive movie to find out if there is antidote that can undo the effects causes by watching Stupid Head 2.
Revenge of the SpiderBot
This is the introduction to the sci-fi thriller, where Shifter first meets the Spiderbot. But this is no ordinary Spiderbot. This was the favourite pet of Binder, the short-sighted Intergalactic Star Commander who lacks the vision required for total domination.
PART II: One of you took my Spiderbot!
The Intergalactic Space Commander really shakes things up in his attempt to get back his missing spiderbot. He sends in his Monkey Dog soldier to capture scientist Laser McFlurry to use as a negotiation pawn. With Laser gone, Shifter soon loses his head over the missing SpiderBot ordeal.
The Movie
This is artistic short is potpourri of fun and adventure weaves horror, drama, slaptick and a lot of creativity into an aptly titled parody of big screen movies. Two directors, their technical crew and a team of local actors develop the concept and provided the storyboarding, the scripting, the action and the camera work, the editing, the sound effects and the titling... Posted just in time for tonights Academy Awards show.
