Summer is a time to make lasting memories. This summer stroll through memory lane with cool slideshows full of great photos of flowers, birds, sunrises, tennis matches, nature trails, waterfalls, people and everything else you set your camera’s sites on. We’ll help you to accomplish this.
This Saturday, take a nature walk with us as we learn some of the key features of iPhoto ‘09 and camera operations to get more of glorious spring colors and special moments.
Learn how to use the new photo technologies included with all new Mac computers, such a Faces (facial recognition technology) and Places (photographics GPS mapping). Checkout the new, wildly innovative, one click slideshow themes. Learn editing techniques.
We’ll cover some basics on editing and touching up photos, organizing them into events, adding special effects and creating instant, but beautiful card, calendars, books, slide shows, web-based photo galleries, photo CDs and DVDs are some of the topics of this workshop training.
Like the elusive Indian Summer, some of the great photo opportunities escape in a blink of an eye. We’ll examine some camera setting for capturing shots that might otherwise get away.
For example, kids at play can play havoc with sudden motion and moving focal points. The sun can be a friend or foe in outdoor wedding scenes. The anniversary celebration could end up as a blur due to dark indoor situations. One can quickly lose focus of the team, if the tree behind them inadvertently becomes the focal point. What’s a non-pro to do?
We’ll discuss some easy, automated, consumer based techniques you can use before, during and after the camera button is pressed.
Bring your own camera (and iMac or MacBook) if it will help you get more out of this session.

How to operate your Mac from a beginner’s point-of-view.
Designed to get your feet wet, this is an out-of-the-box class. Whether it’s surfing the net, playing piano, or using email stationary, making movies, taking photos, or hosting your own video chat with friends and family, this workshop provides a safe, quick start guide to using the cool stuff that comes with your computer.
We begin with basic instructions, except that we also keep an open atmosphere for learning about some topics you raise during this session. If you are new to Mac this is a great place to start. If you are a seasoned Mac veteran, we do not recommend this class to you.
Seniors are welcomed. Bring your questions for the Q&A part that follows. The MacBasic session covers, how to connect your computer, how find things, how to surf the Internet, send and receive email, editing text, working with Microsoft Word and PDF files. But, the open format can also cover some things that do not come in the box, such as connecting printers, cameras or musical instruments to the computer.
Get fun, quick start instructions for the iLife ‘08 applications, for example. This is totally dependent on audience participation. If you want to know what to do to get sound from your guitar in GarageBand ’08, then bring in a guitar. If you want to know how to import and edit photos from your camera, bring in your camera and cable.
OS X 10.5 Leopard has over 300 new features, you’ll see a few of the best features you can use right away to tame your operating system. This includes simple ways to back up your HD and how recover lost files.
Widgets are handy web applications that quickly delivers your favourite content from the Internet, from scheduling flights, tracking stocks, viewing webcams from around the world, translating foreign languages, checking the weather forecast, and more. How to customize your own selection from over 3,000 widgets - and how to create your own custom widgets. How to multitask more efficiently and quickly with your own custom Spaces.
Third-party applications can also be discussed. For example, learning how to find and play online games and downloading software and utilities from the Internet. Where to find High Definition movies, and how to download movies, music and photos to your computer, your iPod or your TV.

Conclusion: First impressions are the best impressions.
Apple revolutionize business with the introduction of “AppleWorks”, the first integrated word processing, spreadsheet and database application program. It ran on the first personal computer that Apple also introduced. Microsoft Office was fully based on AppleWorks. The Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel both first appeared on Apple Macintosh computers. Microsoft’s spreadsheet and word processing hasn’t changed that much in 20 years, and rightly so, because the evolution of the PC version of Office was based on an ambitious goal of being “More Mac-like” [Hence, the Apple vs. Microsoft “Look and Feel” lawsuit].
iWork ’09, on the other hand, has evolved significantly to become the first modern-day office suite based on the ambitious business principles including, striving to be easier to use, easy to learn, more efficient, more productive, more powerful and more compatible.
While Microsoft Office lets you do things the same as you would have 20 years ago, iWorks lets you do the things businesses are doing today, in addition to the things the things that were done decades ago. It has been the choice software for technically skilled “computer experts”. Yes, iWork does many of the same things people already use Microsoft Office for, but iWork does it in a way that is dramatically faster, better, more modern, less expensive and more impressive for the rest of us who don’t fall under the category of “computer expert”.
Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder, was first to introduce much of the technology we take for granted today. Even if the marketing machines choose not to recognize the facts, Apple has left a lasting impression of the business world in terms of the way we use computers today (Desktop Publishing, G.U.I., windows-like OS, WYSIWYG, digital photography, movie and TV production, musicial recording, speech recognition, animation, web design, spreadsheets, the desktop metaphor, networking, Internet and the World Wide Web, the first successful music - movies - TV store, the iPod, the iPhone and the first mobile applications store (with more to come).
Don’t take iWork ’09 for granted. It’s a friendly beast that empowers the users with it’s ease of use, giving your business the ability to leave a powerful first impression to your target market.

Many, who know of the The Breaking Wind, may recall that this band first took the world by storm on 07-07-07 when they performed at Al Gore’s Live Earth event in what was voted online as the “Best Live Earth Venue” on Smitnsonian Instutitue’s N.M.A.I. stage along the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Awesome music. Awesome band. Awesome band members.
On February 24th, 2009 (Family Day), I was fortunate enough to witness Ryan lay down his bass tracks with the entire band at MetalWorks Studios. Besides being a Mac-based Metalworks Studios was chosen for several reasons:
“REGARDED AS ONE OF NORTH AMERICA'S PREMIERE STUDIOS FOR MANY YEARS, METALWORKS HAS PLAYED HOST TO A VERITABLE WHO'S WHO OF INTERNATIONAL RECORDING STARS, AS WELL AS BEING THE KEY RECORDING COMPONENT IN DEVELOPING NEW MUSICAL TALENT.”
For example, on that day at MetalWorks, Katy Perry dropped by (and I liked it).
This experience brought a lot of events full circle for a lot of people. For me, watching the transition of their song “Where We Belong” go from laying down tracks in GarageBand and mixing it in Logic Pro 8 to laying down the final tracks and mix at MetalWorks.
On November 12th of 2007, recording artist Jamie Bonk, courtesy of Apple, Inc., came to iC SuperCOMPUTERS in Six Nations for a FREE live presentation on the art of recording a band in Logic Pro 8. All of the tracks were first laid down in GarageBand in a log cabin along the Grand River. The magic Jamie brought to the session was in how he recorded this young band, the youngest was 12, performing on the stage in the A-Sharp Cafe with an app that Apple includes with every Mac sold. Then, bringing that same GarageBand recording into the virtual studio of Logic Pro 8, Jamie masterfully cleaned up the sound and demonstrated how to do the mix down for a very mature recording.
To this day, you can still find enthusiastic sales reps that eagerly demo the fine points of voice altering and instrument track isolation of this original GarageBand track to potential customers and musicians who visit the iC SuperCOMPUTERS log cabin store.
We must have played and demoed that song a thousand times in the store and at live events, including the Caledonia Fair and the Ancaster Fair, both of which will showcase The Breaking Wind performing live on stage this year. (Don’t miss it!)
So you can imagine what a treat it was for me to watch the MetalWorks engineers Chris Crera (Head Eng.) and Lake Curry focus their skillful attention to “Where We Belong” in the Studio of the Year (12 times winner of the CMW Industry Award).
Each of the songs takes on a new dimension as the result of the master craftsmanship by talented musicians, the engineers, the input from friends and family and the experienced guidance and direction people who make up the TBW team.
Everyone seems to have their favourite songs from the CD. For example, many of seasoned customers love their rendition of Mr. PC. Their enhanced rendition of Red House was the song that hit with the crowd and responsible for their win at the Haldimand’s Got Talent show in the Calendonia Fair (wouldn’t it be awesome to see them perform Red House at the Kitchener Blue’s Festival this year?). While, Dear Mr. Murphy is the big with kids at iC. And, if they have their way, Dear Mr. Murphy is gonna race to the top of the charts.
Everything about the CD is top notched. Even the great design work found in the inside CD package containing lyrics and photos.

Don’t miss Candian Country Music legend Terry Sumsion performing live on stage. This the last great “Spring Forward” event scheduled for A Sharp Cafe. The event takes place Thursday night, April 30th.

Amazing vocalist, Sue Sweetman will also appear on stage at the A Sharp Cafe (3 doors down from our Log Cabin store).

Terry Sumsion had a string of country hits over the years, with his rich baritone voice and a classic “Country” approach to singing.

Terry’s popularity in traditional Country Music circles is as strong as ever. As an entertainer, he connects with his audience like few others.

He has toured with George Jones and Merle Haggard, among many others.

Terry proudly fronted one of Canada’s premier bands, Stagecoach, throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was a Juno and CCMA nominee many times.
Terry has become an advocate for Esophageal Cancer awareness. He is currently enjoying his recovery from a successful battle with that disease.

Terry Sumsion is working on a new single, and a new album, and planning a tour across Canada for the spring of 2009.

FREE Assistive Technologies Event

You won’t want to miss Matt Campbell’s exclusive presentation on how to take advantage of Apple’s built in Assistive Technologies for both the sighted and non-sighted users.
Matt explains the differences and advantages Mac computers have to offer with direct comparisons to assistive technologies on the Windows platform.
The presentation covers important breakthroughs in common applications like the new updated Safari web browser, iTunes and Apple’s new iWork ’09 apps. He will demonstrate the power of Apple’s Voice-Over and built-in speech recognition. Matt also uncovers the methods to turn on the hidden features, key commands and functions.
Besides technologies are essential for non-sighted users, people with dyslexia and other people with special needs, Matt also shows how these features can empower sighted people as well.
This training is recommended for all ages and all computer users. Teachers and care providers will gain useful knowledge on the use and application of these technologies. Purchasing agents can take this to learn about what’s available, what’s practical, what’s cost effective and what’s the most beneficial to user requiring assistive technologies.
There will also be a brief disscusion on third-pary software, such as the new MacSpeech Dictate application featuring the built-in Dragon Speak engine, and third-party devices, including a digital Braille reader.

Country Life Expo

Update: The winner of the FREE DRAW has been selected (see details below). Saturday, we managed to be in three places at once. We had a booth at our first ever Country Life Expo 2009 at Community Centre Area in Burford, Ontario. Supposedly, a couple of Burford students at our booth during the 9th Annual Brant County Career Day at the Civic Auditorium in Brantford were featured in a photo and write-up in the local Burford newspaper, but this is the first live event for iC SuperCOMPUTERS in the Burford area. If you a copy of the article please let me see it. And, if you were at this years Career Fair let us know.

10th Annual Youth & Career Fair

Coincidently, we will also be at the Civic Auditorium for the Brantford Home Show 2009. And, I’m told that the iC Log Cabin store will also be open for business on this day.

I’m curious to see who this will all play out. Who will be in Burford and who will be in Brantford? What will be shown. If I were to wager a guess, I would say that the Burford event will get the MacBook Pro Unibody with new 24” LED Cinema Display. Perhaps Brantford will get a MacBook Unibody or an iMac 24” I guess I’ll have to wait and find out.

Now, I wonder what I’ll see from iC in Burford, if the powers the be choose me to be at the Country Life Expo.
