Reasons The World despises Norton Anti-V...

Almost daily, I’m confronted with horror stories of viruses, and Anti-Norton tales.

It’s hard for me to relate. It’s hard for any Mac OS X user to relate. There’s still “0” viruses in Mac OS X, six years after I first promoted the term “Virus-Free”. At computer stores, you can find Norton Anit-Virus for the Mac - but take a close look at the date or system requirements. Or better yet, look at the dust that has collected on the box.

In 1985 I did get to meet Norton himself. I spoke with him when he walked into ComputerLand, Santa Monica. He was a nice guy. I did enjoy using his Norton Utilities software.

So, why would anyone hate software that gets rid of problems. It’s not like it’s Norton’s fault that there are viruses. My first thought was that it was like discussing war wounds. People need viruses to screw up their computer so that they can join in on the daily office talk. A virus-free computer would be considered anti-social because there was no war wounds to talk about. It’s the hate that people love, or at lease, love to talk about. I imagine that some guys, I did notice that it started mostly with guys, without a wounded PC feels naked and belittled in the presence of the guy with the biggest wound. And now, ditto for women. It seems the uglier and bigger the wound, the better. Kinda like, a big, ugly, infected PC. It makes me wonder just how many PC nightmares are self-inflicted.

I guess I’m thinking too shallow. I’ll leave it up to real PC users (as in real men) to come up with deeper thought. For me, I’ll simply continue using a computer that’s virus-free.
