600 years ago Natives came to the rescue of 3 lost ships under the command of Christopher Columbus, providing food, medicine, chocolate, coffee...everything. 200 years ago Natives came to the aid of cold, starving pilgrams in what insiders refer to as “America’s first welfare lines”. 100 years ago it was Joseph Brant and the Mohawks driving the U.S. Invasion out of Hamilton, Ontario to as far as Michigan.
This great tradition has continued to this day, Tsimshian members of Hartley Bay community and others immediately entered the waters to rescue people from the sunken B.C. Ferry.
You can always count on Natives to stand up for and support people in need regardless of race, ethnic background, skin colour or landed immigrant status.
This serves as a continuing lesson that the language of love and care for fellow humans is universal.
It is always a good thing whenever you help a neighbour, a friend, a stranger, a fellow human being in need. Hopefully, the good will come back to you should the time come when you are in need.
